Paul DeMartini
joined the Livonia Fire Department shortly after he moved to the
area in 1946. One year after the Ambulance Squad was formed in
1966, Paul became a member.
He was
initially trained in Advanced First-Aid and shortly thereafter
became a Red Cross Instructor. Paul went "head over heels"
with enthusiasm for the Squad and made up his mind to make the
Livonia Squad the best in the county. He served for nearly two
decades as Captain and received the first Emergency Medical Technician
certification in the area.
Paul went
on to become an EMT Category 3 Instructor and an instructor in
cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.
By 1988
he had made over 4,071 ambulance runs and was responsible for
training many EMTs and First Responders in the Livingston County
area. Paul delivered four babies and averaged over 200 yearly
ambulance calls during the course of his 27-year career with the
Livonia Ambulance Squad.
